TDA & PUBLIC ORAL-DENTAL HEALTH
It is one of the most important objectives of TDA to improve the public oral-dental health. Every effort is made to achieve this goal. TDA financially supports the oral-dental health projects of local chambers and provides slides and published materials on public oral-dental health. TDA also carries out long-term and nation-wide projects to improve the quality of public oral-dental health.

TDA is specifically interested in the projects which aim to contribute to the improvement of the quality of the public oral-dental health. Two examples of long-term oral-dental health projects of TDA are summarized here below:
Social Services and Child Protection Institution Project
“Social Responsibility Project”
Turkish Dental Association (TDA), has made a protocol with Procter&Gamble, and Social Services and Child Protection Institution in order to perform “Tooth Brushes - Social Responsibility” Project concerning the Children Nursing Homes, which will be identified throughout Turkey and will be starting between January 1st 2005 and January 1st 2006.
Within the frame of this Project, “Rooms for Healthy Smiles” will be established in the specified Children Nursing Homes of the Social Services and Child Protection Institution premises. It is being planned to conduct activities for oral health of the children residing in Social Services and Child Protection Institution. It is being planned to arrange these rooms to provide activities such as giving preventive dental care, education and personal development in order to contribute to childrens’ physical and social development. Within this scope, upon the establisment of these centers within the following three years with the support of TDA, the objective is to identify the status of the oral health of the children residing in these centres to improve their oral healh and provide preventive dental care and education.
What are the targets of the Project?
This Project is both a social one and also have a scientific base. An intensive study was carried out with the academic staff, primarily Department of Oral Health of Dental Faculty. The project is developing as follows: in the first stage a survey is being made in order to identify the oral health behaviour models of the children and to evaluate the level of their oral health knowledge. Afterwards, their oral health status is being determined. According to this clinical research, the general status of the oral health is determined. How quickly the cavity, gingival inflamation and the dental plaque is being observed in these children. In the light of the results identified, the oral health education is provided for these children. After this education, answers to the questions such as how much improvement could be achieved concerning the oral health knowledge of these children, how much the children have learnt these, how much they are successful in their oral health behaviour, what are deficiencies in their level of knowledge; are all being determined and the deficiency in their oral health knowledge is completed with additional information. Their oral health performence is being continously examined.
TOOH PROTECTION DAYS
“Social Responsibility Project”
“Tooth Potection Days” campaign which is arranged by Turkish Dental Association and Colgate is being carried on in our country for 5 years. The 6th one was held between the dates of 7th and 26th November 2005.
Tooth Protection Days cover 3 weeks time, during this period the public is informed regarding the development of oral health awareness regarding oral diseases that are preventable in nature and also fissure sealant is applied to the children aged between 6 and 12.
In the previous 5 years period study, 13421 dentsists have participated, and fissure sealant was applied free of charge to 214375 children aged between 6-12 and 630.000 people have benefited from free oral examination.
Since 2003 the workforce of the participation of the Dental Faculties to the campaign is also provided.
Moreover, the support of the Ministry of Education is provided in order to provide effectiveness on the children who are in the level of the primary education.
"ORAL HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS" PROJECT
Objective of the Project: to improve knowledge, attitudes and behavior of primary school students regarding the personal hygiene, oral health, tooth brushing and florid use
Partners of the Project: Turkish Dental Association with the co-operation of the Municipality of Şişli, İstanbul
Implementation of the Project: this Project will be scaled up province-based and will be implemented between the students from 1st class to 5th class of the primary schools within the territory of the Municipality of Şişli, İstanbul
Duration of the Project: will be starting in the 2007-2008 education period and will continue next four years
FDI-TDA-SIGNAL PROJECT; “Live, Learn, Laugh”
Presenting the effects of oral and dental health to the general public health in Turkey, World Dental Federation (FDI), Turkish Dental Association (TDA) and Signal accomplished the research project “Status Analysis of Oral and Dental Health in Turkey”, collaborating in order to increase the consciousness level in Turkish community.
“Status Analysis of Oral and Dental Health in Turkey” project is a part of the “Live, Learn, Laugh” Unilever and FDI co-project which was established in 2005 and contains 45 projects in 38 countries. “Live, Learn, Laugh” Project is aiming to improve the oral health education and encouragement in the already developed and still developing countries.
Turkish Dental Association and Signal announced on 18 April 2008 in a press conference organized at The Marmara Hotel, İstanbul, that they started a nationwide project in order to help to improve the oral health. This project will provide the increase of consciousness in the Turkish community concerning oral health, by determining oral health problems and finding solutions.
TDA / Signal / FDI research project will last a period of three years and more than 7000 people will take part in the project representing the profile of Turkey both from rural and urban areas. In this research project which aims to determine the behavioral and social components and indicators, the prevalence of dental caries, enamel disorders and gingival diseases, tooth brushing techniques, accessibility to dentists and lifestyle will be analysed detailed among the individuals taking part in the project.
Project Targets can be summarized as follows:

Tooth brushing techniques, accessibility to dentists and lifestyle will also be undertaken.
First stage of the project implemented on 15-18 March 2009 in Manisa under the leadership of Prof.Dr. İnci OKTAY. Second stage of the project took place on 28 April – 1 May 2009 in Nevşehir.
PUBLICATIONS
TDA has a wide-range of publications conceming periodical dental journals, guidelines on professional regulation and books on specific aspects of dentistry. Through these publications TDA aims to contribute to the continious dental education of the colleagues, keep them up-to-date with the current regulations of the profession and activities of TDA and make them informed on the recent concepts and developments in dentistry and also on scientific events. The following is a short list of the avaiable publications of TDA.
Journal of TDA: Published bimonthly for 14 years and is free of charge for the members.
Special Issues of Journal of TDA: Oral-Dental Hygiene Products, Infection Control in Dental Practice
