FDI declared to the whole world that 2013 dental congress is going to be realized in İstanbul

101st  FDI AWDC is going to be organized in Istanbul on 28th August - 31st 28th August 2013 as a result of the regular studies carried out by Turkish Dental Association. It was decided in the March/Lisbon meeting that 101st AWDC will be realized in Turkey.  Previously we had the chance to host the regional commission meetings together with the meetings of European Dental Organization. However World Dental Congress which is realized once in a year is going to happen in our country for the first time.

This development which is highly important for our country has been announced to public opinion through a press conference in Hilton hotel on 12nd of April 2012. Besides the board member of TDA, Prof. Dr. Nermin YAMALIK FDI Council Member, Hasan YAMAN President of Adana Dental Chamber, Caner GÜLEÇ President of Antalya Dental Chamber, Oktay İŞBİLİR President of Aydın Dental Chamber, Aşkın ŞİMŞEK President of Çanakkale Dental Chamber, Murat ÖZYILDIRIM President of Kocaeli Dental Chamber,Volkan ÖNEN President of Malatya Dental Chamber, Yusuf KILIÇ President of Muğla Dental Chamber, Birol KARAİBİŞ President of Tekirdağ Dental Chamber, Prof. Dr. Mahir GÜNDAY Dean of Dental Faculty in Marmara University, Prof. Dr. Türker SANDALLI Dean of Dental Faculty in Yeditepe University to the press conference where Prof. Dr. Taner YÜCEL President of Turkish Dental Association and Jean-Luc EISELE FDI Executive Director signed the congress agreement.

Prof. Dr. Taner YÜCEL, President of Turkish Dental Association underlined that World Dental Congresses organized by FDI are major organizations with the aim of exchanging knowledge among all of the partners in international oral health and added “These organizations make a huge contribution to the presentation of the organizer countries. This major organization is not going to be only TDA’s success but also be a positive step towards the presentation of our country. We are expecting everybody’s contribution to this road of progress. Each support will light the way on which try to reach the better.”

YÜCEL underlined the possibility of the attendees’’ to watch the presentations of the world known scientist in dental area, listen to the latest developments and to have the chance to have face to face interaction with their colleagues from all over the world and said “ It is an important step not only for dentist but also for their patients. In this age when we need peace at most, face to face interaction is the best way for knowledge and love. The dentists who are going to get together in Istanbul in 2013 will light up the Olympic torch of the health. We hope that this light, we the dentists will contribute to the peace.”

Jean-Luc EISELE, FDI Executive Director underlined once again that oral dental health is a inseparable part of the general health by saying that FDI, representative of 1.200.000 dentists and 200 national association, is the worldwide advocate of the oral health in his speech which he started in Turkish by saying “Merhaba Kongre hayırlı uğurlu olsun (Hello, congrats with the congress.)”

Jean-Luc stressed that TDA has always supported studies of FDI and as FDI they are proud of this.  Jean Luc said that FDI congresses carry the mission of gathering people together and follow the tradition of communication and underlined that Turkey has a great importance with its feature of combining continents.

Jean Luc Eisele pointed that 4 items are gathered together during the congress:

-Education: FDI expecting 10.000 participants
-Governance: World Dental Parliament, 300 NDA Leaders.
-Corporate: 200 Exhibitors
- Advocacy: It supports TDA’s efforts in Turkey and regional development of oral health and dentistry in a high economic growth country.

And on the subject of why İstanbul has been choosen he stated that;

-Turkey has a tradition of bridging and networking.
-A channel to Europe, Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.
-Meeting where continents meet.
-
Venue is one of the most important factors and selection of the venue is a real success.

After the speeches Prof. Dr. Taner YÜCEL, the President of Turkish Dental Association and Jean-Luc EISELE, FDI Executive Director signed the 2013 AWDC agreement.

FDI World Dental Federation

The FDI World Dental Federation is a federation of approximately 200 national dental associations and specialist groups. The organization’s vision of "leading the world to optimal oral health" acknowledges that oral health is an integral part of general health and well-being.

FDI World Dental Federation was founded in 1900 and is one of the world`s oldest existing health profession organizations. More than 100 years since its founding, FDI World Dental Federation serves as the principal representative body for more than 1 million dentists worldwide, developing health policy and continuing education programmes, speaking as a unified voice for dentistry in international advocacy, and supporting member associations in oral health promotion activities worldwide.

Turkish Dental Association

Turkish Dental Association has been a member of FDI since 1988. It is one of the most active members despite its summation of 24 years.  TDA has representatives both in Standing Commissions and Board of Directors.
